Will Fall Colors Dazzle?
News

We have had a warm and wet fall and that could affect the fall colors.

Some autumn colors are starting to show up in Wayne County, but with all the rain over the past few weeks and warm temperatures, experts predict this fall foliage season could be a short one.

The head of Wayne County Visitor Center is trying to stay optimistic.

"We are receiving phone calls, people asking us when will the leaves be at their peak or are they going to be damaged. We think they will be beautiful. We have had a lot of rain, but you know, we are going to to hope for the best," said Donna Labar of the Wayne County Visitor Center.

She is not the only one hoping for a nice fall season. Employees of a new bagel shop in Honesdale are counting on tourists to come to town and help out their business.

"Well, we just opened in June so we're excited to get all the people from the train rides that they do," said Tina Ward of Camp Umpys.

There is still a lot of uncertainty as to whether or not the leaves will change color in time for the peak of the season which is mid October. Wayne County does count on tourism and the beautiful leaves so what we need now is cool and dry weather to make that happen.

People in Honesdale are saying there is still time for the leaves to change and fall to settle in.

"I think mother nature is right on time. She'll be there on schedule and the leaves will be out and it's a great place to come for a drive," said Brian Wilken of Honesdale.
