Two Charged in Jewelry Store Robbery | News

Two men from Lackawanna County are accused of robbing a jewelry store in Wayne County.
It happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday at MV Precious Jewelry on Route 590 in Hamlin.
Police said Thomas Smith of Olyphant went into the store and asked about the jewelry. As the store owner turned her back to get him information, police said Smith went behind the counter, grabbed a bag of jewelry and ran out of the store.
The owner tried to stop him and sprayed him with pepper spray. Smith managed to get into a waiting car which police said was driven by Darnell Singleton, also of Olyphant.
State police later pulled the car over on I-380 near the Tigue Street exit and arrested Smith and Singleton.
Both men are charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft by unlawful taking and simple assault. they are locked up in Wayne County.
